Oklahoma City is the capital of Oklahoma. It’s known as a center for academic institutions, as well as its technology, oil and health service industries.
The Oklahoma Territory became U.S. territory from the 1803 Louisiana Purchase. On April 22, 1889, Oklahoma City was settled and named “Unassigned Lands.” On that date, 4,000 to 6,000 settlers came to the area to establish homes and businesses.
Known as the Land Run of 1889, this opened the doors for more than 50,000 settlers, called “Sooners” to come to the area and claim land. Oklahoma City was incorporated on July 15, 1890.
Within 11 years after its initial settlement, leaders and builders developed Oklahoma City into a commercial and transportation hub. By the late 1920s, oil was discovered within the city limits and quickly became a major industry in Oklahoma City. By 1935, the Oklahoma City oil field had produced 409 million barrels of crude oil.
By the 1950s, the population in Oklahoma City had grown to 243,504 and by 2000, Oklahoma City had 506,132 residents.
Today, Oklahoma City is one of the largest cities in the Great Plains region.
Oklahoma City attractions include: Oklahoma City National Memorial, Oklahoma City Zoo, National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum, Myriad Botanical Gardens and the State Capitol.
Oklahoma has one professional sports team, the Thunder (NBA). After Hurricane Katrina, the New Orleans Hornets (now Pelicans) played most of their home game in the Ford Center (now Chesapeake Energy Arena) during the 2005-2006 and 2006-2007 seasons. Oklahoma City is also home to minor league baseball, basketball and soccer teams.

Oklahoma City is also prone to severe thunderstorms, flash floods, droughts and tornadoes because of its central location in Tornado Alley. The region faces severe weather from March to June. Drivers should take precautions and check weather reports before driving in the area.
The city does not suffer from adverse road conditions and traffic congestion.

You would be surprised how much insurance rates can vary zip code to zip code even if the zip codes are within the same metropolitan area. This can be for various reasons including higher or lower crime rates in a specific zip code area, accident statistics in that zip code, traffic density in different parts of the city, and even different weather conditions depending on what part of the metro area you are in. This can become even more interesting if you live on the border of a different zip code yet your are paying more for insurance than you would if you lived right across the street. While some people will use this to their advantage and give their insurance company a different address than their actual address to save some money it is not advisable as this may be seen as a form of fraud.
To find out what your auto insurance rates will be for you zip code either fill out the quick quote form above or call one or more of the local agents below. It is best to call more than one to get them to compete for your business so that you can get the cheapest rates possible. Many people would rather avoid this effort because its more work but its one of the best ways to get cheap auto insurance quotes.
